We install the three that actually work well
ecobee SmartThermostat Premium:our default recommendation. Best-in-class remote sensor support (balance the upstairs bedroom against the main floor), proper equipment-type config for dual-fuel, and cloud reliability that’s better than Google’s.
Google Nest Learning:great for single-zone all-gas homes where the household likes the “learning” schedule. Less ideal for dual-fuel or multi-zone.
Honeywell Home T9 / T10 Pro:for homeowners who want smart features without a Google or Amazon account. Works with Honeywell’s wireless sensors.
Why install matters, the C-wire problem
Most homes we visit have the old 2-wire thermostat setup and no C-wire. The internet is full of “power stealing” adapter hacks that work until they don’t, intermittent boot loops, AC staying on after the setpoint, phantom humidifier activations. We run a proper C-wire or install an add-a-wire kit at the air handler. Done right the first time.
Dual-fuel + humidifier wiring
If you have a heat pump with gas backup, or a humidifier, or zoning, the thermostat’s equipment-type configuration is where most DIY installs go wrong. We set the thermostat to match the actual system, not a guess, and confirm each mode (cool, heat pump, aux, emergency, humidify) runs the right equipment.
What sets this smart thermostats job apart.
Proper C-wire install every time. No adapter hacks, no power stealing.
Equipment-type configuration done right, dual-fuel, humidifier, zoning, dehumidifier.
ecobee remote sensor placement for multi-zone comfort without a full zoning system.
Bundled with a seasonal tune-up? We discount the install.
smart thermostats, quick answers.
- On a simple single-stage gas furnace + AC with an existing C-wire, probably yes. On a heat pump, dual-fuel, zoned, or humidifier setup, we strongly recommend professional install, equipment-type misconfigurations can cause short-cycling, high bills, and premature equipment wear.
- Modest savings (5–12% on heating/cooling bills), mostly from not-at-home schedules and remote sensor balancing. The bigger wins are comfort and visibility into how your system's running.
- ecobee Premium for most homes. It's the one we have on our own houses.
Watson smart thermostats reviews.

“Mike and the crew were great! I submitted a service/quote request online through the website and had a response the same evening. Communication was easy and quick through my entire experience. My HVAC system was original to my condo (30 years old) and Mike and the team didn't bat an eye at converting to a heat pump system. Installation required some extra sweat working in my small laundry room, rewiring and adding junction box, rerouting drainage, adapting existing ductwork, and installing a new thermostat. They completed the job in a single day while I napped after working night shift. Good people, excellent work, and great price. 10/10, highly recommend. Thank you Mike!”
“We had a contractor remove our home thermostat to paint and all of a sudden we no longer had AC. After many hours of my husband and the contractor trying to figure out the problem with no luck, we were referred to Mike from a neighbor. Not only did Mike respond to my call too early in the morning but he was able to fit me in quickly and identified and fixed the issue within minutes. We're new to KY and so grateful to have found Mike for our ongoing HVAC system needs. We signed up for the annual plan and looking forward to working with him again in the near future!”
“I have had the semi-annual HVAC servicing package with Watson Heating and Cooling for the last two years, and been very pleased with them. Yesterday, while out of state for work, I received a notification from my thermostat that the heat had malfunctioned and that it believed the furnace was off. I contacted Watson, and within a couple of hours I had a response saying they would be there today. My thermostat was right, the heat was out. I was afraid my 20 year old furnace had finally given up, but Watson got it back up and running without even a part. I have found this to be an honest, hard working, local business that I trust and value.”
